The Department of Education (DepEd)  has issued DepEd Memorandum No. 3, s. 2022 or the 2022 International Day of Education.

This year's International Day of Education has the subject "Changing Course, Transforming Education." strives to highlight the most critical changes that must be nourished in order to realize everyone's fundamental right to education and to develop more sustainable, inclusive, and peaceful futures.

2022 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF EDUCATION

1. To showcase the most important transformations that have to be nurtured realize everyone's fundamental right to education and build more sustainable, inclusive and peaceful futures, the Department of Education (DepEd) announces the observance of the 2022 International Day of Education (IDE) with the theme, Changing Course, Transforming Education.

2. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed January 24 as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development. Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind. UNGA invites all Member States to observe the International Day of Education (IDE) in an appropriate manner and continue to consider enhancing international cooperation in support of the efforts of all Member States towards the realization of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030.

3. The IDE aims to:
a. generate debate on the essential triggers of transformations to build more equitable and inclusive education systems that will accelerate progress towards SDG 4, taking on board findings of UNESCO's Futures of Education Report;

b. showcase transformations in action with the potential for scaling to advance digital inclusion, green competencies and skills, and gender equality:

C. mobilize political will to address gaping inequalities in access and completion of education, in line with SDG 4; 

d. spotlight student voices on what changes and innovations they want to see to make their education more fit for purpose; and e. spotlight teachers' voices on the future of their profession, from integrating technology in their practice to orienting teaching and learning around new skills and mindsets for people and planet.

4. DepEd, through the International Cooperation Office (ICO), will organize an online webinar, in collaboration with its partner agencies and organizations, on January 24, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. via Facebook Live of DepEd PH and DepEd-ICO Facebook Page, to celebrate the 2022 IDE. Target participants are the educators and learners representing different schools, as well as other organizations and education systems from countries around the world.

5. All concerned regional offices (ROS) and schools division offices (SDOs) are enjoined to support the 2022 IDE by organizing relevant activities for the learners and for other stakeholders such as parents, teachers, and nonteaching personnel. These activities shall strictly comply with the minimum health standards. The abovementioned concerned offices are also requested to prepare tarpaulins to be posted in the school premises and online postings on the official Facebook pages for information dissemination of the international celebration.

6. Expenses incurred relative to the observance of the 2022 IDE shall be charged to local funds, subject to the usual accounting and auditing procedures, rules and regulations.
