DepEd schedules sembreak for public school learners
Students in public elementary and high school under the Department of Education (DepEd) will have a five-day school break (popularly known as semestral break or sem-break) starting March 15 until March 19, after the 2-week Intervention and remediation activities for learners.
This school break week will be the time for students to devote time to non-academic activities such as their hobbies and interests, family bonding, and caring for their physical and socio-emotional wellbeing according to DepEd.
During the school break, teachers shall attend a professional development program through an In-Service Training (INSET) organized by the school or other relevant units of DepEd.
From March 1 to March 12, 2021, schools shall conduct intervention and remediation activities based on the unique needs of the learners as determined through the results of the different forms of assessments administered for the past two quarters as stipulated in DepEd Order DepEd Order 012, s 2021 entitled AMENDMENT TO DEPED ORDER NO. 030, S. 2020 (Amendment to DepEd Order No. 007, s. 2020, School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2020-2021)issued by Education Secretary Leonor Briones on March 2.
Classes will resume on March 22 and will end on July 10, 2021.

The Department of Education (DepEd) issued DepEd Order No. 012, s. 2021 entitled “Amendment to DepEd Order No. 030, s. 2020 (Amendment to DepEd Order No. 007, s. 2020, School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2020-2021)” to allow schools to implement intensive intervention and remediation activities for learners and to give time to teachers for the different learning delivery modalities.With this, teachers, parents, and learners are advised to take note of the following amendments to the school calendar:
- March 1-12, 2021 - Intervention and remediation activities for learners
- March 15-19, 2021 - In-Service Training (INSET) for teachers and school break for learners
- March 22 to May 15, 2021 - Quarter 3
- May 17 to July 10, 2021 - Quarter 4This policy shall be implemented in ALL PUBLIC elementary and secondary schools nationwide for SY 2020-2021.
Private schools, technical and vocational institutions, and higher education institutions, including state and local universities and colleges offering the K to 12 Basic Education Program are encouraged to implement these guidelines according to their philosophy, vision, and mission.
